Pittsburgh in a day

A great breakfast provided by the hotel and then it was all aboard the Big Bus tour. A minor disappointment was the fact that only one bus was running for the day, so if you hopped off, the next bus would only come by in 2.5 hours time- not conducive to hopping on and off. As the first pick up at my hotel was at 9.45am it meant that many things on the list could not be done. Like the Warhol Museum and the Children’s Museum. I also wanted to ride up the funicular. But one makes the best.

The tour itself around 3 hours… I stayed on and did the complete loop and then stayed on till the next two stops. I got off in the strip district. So called not due to the obvious thought thank goodness, but rather due to the strip mining in the area long long ago.  I wandered around the fruit and veg shops, explored the legendary Grandpa Joe’s candy store. I emded up at Luke Wholey’s Wild Alaskan Grille for lunch- a delicious crab and beetroot salad with walnuts and cheese. I am loving this beets, citrus and walnut salad combo.

I went back to my hotel for a pitstop and to put on a long shirt, it is decidedly chillier- but pleasantly so. I then caught bus No39 out to Union Square and arrived ridiculously early for my Segway tour. Nothing a bit of shopping couldn’t sort. Nora – I found your pressie!!!!!

The segway tour was fantastic and I hope my pocs do it justice. I chose the 2 hour downtown tour and it ran from 6-8pm. So I got sunshine, sunset and the city lights. Our guide was really good and we had only 3 in the group which was great. My companions were Russians who spoke little english- bliss. Segways are a great way to see a large part of a city area in a relatively short time.

I have loved every minute in Pittsburgh and wish that I had amother day to do it justice. I  sorry I missed the museums this time. But as Arnie says….I’ll be back. I can’t believe no-one talks about Pittsburgh- im fact most people asked me why on earth I am going to Pittsburgh! Its not a long stay destination, but 3 days easily to enjoy it all.

I have just had a ridiculously expensive but equally enjoyable meal at Eleven. I had pappardel (flat pasta) with a lamb neck ragu. Reason for eating here is that it is 150m from my hotel. I am quite footsore and have a really early morning tomorrow as my train leaves at 7.30am.

See you in New York city!
