Onward to Ohio

I have just watched a tv programme about the Vietnam war. The more things change the more they stay the same. Nearly 50 years on, our governments still lie to us, students still riot and burn, the press lie and life goes on.

But I digress….

After a good nights’ sleep and my cases magically being loaded in the car (thanks again Parks), we all headed off to a great little restaurant – I think it was called The Rooster for breakfast. I started the day so well with an egg and avo breakfast. Sadly it was time to say goodbye to the Walkers and hit the road to Ohio. Thanks again Bev and Parks for the warm reception and hospitality….always good to be with the Free State family! Thanks for the pumpkin spice and the travel map….cant wait to fill it in.

Most of the trip was pretty unremarkable, with dry countryside. I tried to take the country roads, but there was so much traffic disruption due to construction that I had to get back onto the interstate. Finally I got off and headed through the beautiful  areas of Apple Creek, Mount Eaton and Wilmot. So many happy memories of our previous visit to the area. Then the first Amish buggy came cast, I saw Yoders kitchen and I knew I had made a good call to come back. I checked into The Inn at The Amish Door, a really quaint Amish hotel. One of the requirements at check in is that you sign a waiver not to smoke or drink on the property. The hotel is really old fashioned, but beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean.

I took a drive around the area and just enjoyed the scenery. I took a quick detour to our previous accommodation at Sojourners Lodge – about 5 miles away and it was every bit as beautiful as I remember. The corn is standing 6-7 feet high in the fields and the land looks lush. I get such a thrill from seeing the Amish go by in their buggies or working in the fields. By the time I was heading home, they were all arriving for a church service nearby. Scenes from another era.

Eventually it was time for long awaited Amish buffet at the Red Door restaurant. Yep Dawn…every bit as good as we remembered. I had a little of every salad available and extra helpings of beets and coleslaw. A scrumptious  fried chicken piece with some gravy and then I could eat no more. OBVIOUSLY I ordered a slice of pumpkin pie to take away for later and it was delicious! Pumpkin spice belongs in pumpkin pie….not in coffee or Philadelphia cheese. Oh dear Bev, I have just remembered that I left it in the fridge! Hhhhmmmmm maybe mistakenly on purpose! Hope you guys enjoy it…lol.

Dear Tim, I am sorry I broke up with you, I am really feeling it now, so are my clothes. When I get home, I promise to work harder on our relationship. Lotsa love

Ooops I digressed again….

I witnessed the most amazing sunset and I hope my pictures do it some justice. I loved the sounds of the Amish buggies clippety-clopping through the valley. An early night for me and off to Pittsburgh tomorrow.

Again, thanks for the comments I love the interactions

Brett, I have to set the Jaguar record straight, it is not the F- series, but the X series. The XF S…..
