Day 10 on the boat and disembarking

Sorry, I missed the blog last night. But we had rolling seas, heavy winds and rains. So I lay prone on my bed very seasick. Valoids taken like smarties.

Our last day on the boat was largely uneventful. It rained nearly all day and there were gale force winds. So after breakfast, last bit of washing was done. Tylakins I really miss you when I stand ironing! Then up to the lounge for a long read, most of the morning. Had a nice chat to our friends feom Holland who each had a birthday on board and celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary.

Then it was lunchtime and we had the tastiest tomato soup. One of my favourite soups on this trip. Followed by a poor imitation of a burger 🍔. After lunch the weather was still crappy and waters were fairly choppy, so I spent most of the afternoon in my room reading. Went up to to main deck and got sidetracked with a chinwag session with some ladies from Kent that we had met the previous day on the bus  trip. We all sat in the upstairs cafetaria for about an hour and a half or so. Then off to supper. Yep….a truly wake up, eat, read, eat, read, eat…kind of day.

Last nights dinner was great. A formal farewell from the captain and crew. Champagne handed out to all, a speech and then a farewell song from the crew. Dinner was also top class. Starters was a smoked salmon with salmon roe, mains was an ox sirloin unfortunately with beans! But all the rest was scrumptious. Desert was a SuccessTarte. Basically a nut based sponge, covered with an egg and honey sauce and a raisin compote. Was an excellent meal.

A special moment was just after dinner when the couple from Vancouver (he of csmers lesson fame) came over to our table especially to say goodbye to us. We also said farwell  to our Dutch friends.

We had a short stop in Rorvik after dinner for about an hour. Just enough time to walk around the town 3 times. It was very cloudy last night, so we missed out on the super moon totally. Once back on board, it was packing  time. The sea was really rough, so I was not feel strong.

this morning we disembarked at 7ish and took a taxi to the station. We had about an hours wait until our train left for Dombas. Some beautiful scenery, right in the valleys of the mountains, hundreds of frozen waterfalls, frozen lakes, snow all over. The pics are ok, but difficult to take from the train. We changed trains in the village of Dombas, to catch the famous Raumbanen rail, from Dombas to Andalsnes. The station in Dombas was covered in snow, which made lugging the cases quite a challenge.

Again the scenery was breathtaking. Have tried to video it to give you better images, but the train speed makes it tough. I didn’t know where to look next, so much water, Rivers, waterfalls, fallen ice, frozen lakes. Fields of snow, ski resorts, with ski slopes and ski lifts. Majestic black granite mountains rising high on either side, many covered on top by snow. Acres of farmlands, covered in white, looked like a postcard.

We arrived in Andalsnes just after 1pm and caught a taxi to our hotel. Nice hotel, with great rooms which have a view over the fjord/lake. We had a spaghetti bolognese for lunch which was bleh! Pre cooked and reheated, but enough to keep us going till supper time. We took a long slow walk around the town, which is pretty. Nice wooden buildings, very clean and surrounded by mountains and water. No snow in the town which made walking around easier and it is nowhere newr as cold as we have experienced.

Enjoy the pics, and see you tomorrow….
