Andalsnes to Oslo

Can’t believe that this stunning holiday is coming to an end. We are now on the final leg before its time to head home. But we are still having a great time, so now is a good time for it to end, I guess

Last night we had the worst dinner of the trip and possibly of my travelling life. We decided to have a change and went to the local Chinese restaurant near our hotel  The service was friendly but weird due to a massive language barrier. Our waiter was Eritrean who spoke no english. Our drinks order was a nightmare, I wanted to try a soft drink called Jule Brus, but could not get this understood by the waiter. So when I went to the back to point the drink out, I saw a coke Zero and thought I would have that instead. I ended up getting both, a half litre glass of coke zero and a christmas jule type drink. Not a great combination.

Dawn’s wine order fared no better and she also had to go to the back to point out exactly what it was she wanted. Maybe this should have been the clue. But the food was ordered by number, so we thought we were home and dry. Well, they got the order right but it was truly gross. We ordered a sweet and sour pork and a beef with vegetable and noodles. It is without a doubt the worst chinese food I have ever had. The pork had a crispy (fried in old oil) batter so thick that you you could not find the pork, when you did get a piece of pork, you could not cut through it. Ht beef and noodles had a peculiar taste and smell. We each managed a few bites and had to call it quits. The fiasco cost us a fair whack too. To commiserate we went back to our hotel and had desert there.

This morning our taxi picked us up at 9am and we left Andelsnes for Oslo. The first part of the train trip was on the Rauma railway, which is too beautiful for words. We changed trains once again in Dombas. Unfortunately train travel is not conducive to pictures or videos, but we have tried our best. The lights in the carriages cause reflections and mirror images. But I am sure that you can get an idea of the splendour.

I am really glad that we chose this option of train travel. We have seen a completely different landscape. Also to see some of the interior. So some new experiences for me. I will be coming back to Norway to experience this nature in its spring/summer glory. I think the melting snow, the waterfalls that are created and the clear rivers and greenery, must be awesome.

We arrived in a wet and darkish Oslo just after 3pm. We caught a cab to our hotel. Thon Hotel Panorama. Nice hotel near to the station. My room has a view over the opera house. We went for a walk down Karl Johan’s gate, this afternoon. But unfortunately it was raining most of the time, but we did stroll from one end to the other. Dinner was at the nearest restaurant to our hotel, Italian. I had a pasta and Dawn a pizza. Was very good. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us tomorrow. It is not freezing cold here, so it is pleasant to walk around.

Now its off to bed. A whole city to cram into two days?
